Subject: Steering Group Email Meeting /CB693 HEAT

Dear members of the steering group for HEAT-project,

I hope you are all well. I believe I haven’t met you all, my name is Laura Luukkonen and I’m the project coordinator from Baltic Region Healthy Cities.

As you perhaps have heard, there are changes happening in our organization. Karolina Mackiewicz has started with new challenges in MyData Global which is an NGO based in Helsinki. The Baltic Region Healthy Cities Association will be closed down and all its activities transferred to the city of Turku. Thus I am opening this email meeting for the steering group.

The subject for this meeting is the approval of the lead partner change in HEAT project. The proposed new lead partner is city of Turku.

The process behind the closing down of the association started last year. It is due to the fact that an association can no longer qualify as the WHO collaborating centre, a status that the association has proudly held. The new rules accept a city as a collaborating centre and since the city of Turku has been funding and supporting the association, it was clear that the city of Turku should apply for the collaborating centre status and continue the work for healthy cities.

All the projects and activities of the association will be transferred to city of Turku, including this Central Baltic project HEAT. The work of the project will continue as planned and city of Turku will take care of all the responsibilities that were at the beginning assigned to the association.

Later there will be some small administrative things required from the partners, such as signing a contract with city of Turku, but otherwise everything should continue normally. I will keep you updated with the requirements. The transfer of the project is on-going and for Central Baltic projects it will take place after the approval of MA/JS, given that you’re not objecting it.

Attached you can find the City of Turku Mayor’s decision (English) and the memo from the annual meeting of the association (Finnish).

I am asking for your approval by Friday 15.00.

If there are any questions, I’ll be happy to answer them.

Best regards,
Laura Luukkonen – Project Coordinator
