Projekt

Lühikokkuvõte

As our education system is changing and now it is planned even more to integrate children with different kinds of disabilities into comprehensive (general education) schools and teachers in these schools need support and assistance in dealing with children with disabilities. We have identified that children with disabilities have problems with integrating into sports lessons, so they do not participate in sports activities at all. That is a problem, because it is proven that physical education (sports activities) help them to improve social skills and is very good for their health. Physical education is very important because it contributes to maintaining, strengthening and improving the health of learners, as well as promoting common cognitive activities and movement development, in order to develop the physical ability to carry out the basic weighing development of daily activities.
In special schools we have the possibility to respond very individually to the special requirements of each child. Physical education is very special and this is different from classroom teaching. Every child needs exercise, you just have to choose the right sport or type of exercise depending on the child's disability.
Especially for children with autistic spectrum disorders physical education can be an enormous stress situation. Due to the high noise level and the occasional confusion in the sports hall, it is difficult for autistic students to cope with these situations. Their sensory hypersensivity and their need for structure and order can not be adequately taken into account in school physical education.
All schools involved are special schools that work with children with various disabilities. In this project we want to pay special attention to children with autism spectrum disorders.
Within the project we should work together on new approaches/methods for integrating disabled children into sports lessons and test these methods into schools.
So our idea within this Nordplus project is to create a joint edition of practical help (handbook) for teachers in comprehensive schools, dealing with children with disabilities, with emphasis on integration in physical education (sports lessons). It is planned to record the developed methods and solutions in pictures and in writing. Practical solutions for teachers, who can choose and easily apply them according to their needs.

Eesmärgid

The aim of the project is that more children with disabilities have access to sports activities, thereby improving their social skills and enjoying exercise. This will bring the goal of inclusion in this issue closer. The objectives are to receive new knowledge on pedagogical and didactic methods to include pupils with autism spectrum disorders and cognitive disabilities (short-term). In a longer term perspective the objectives are that we are able to guide teachers in comprehensive schools. And the most important objective in a long-term perspective is that the methods will be implemented in the schools in order to give every pupil the best opportunity to be and feel included in the physical activities together with peers in the best way – also peers with cognitive disability.

Tegevused

To implement the planned teacher experience exchange we planned to organise 4 meetings - one in each participating country and a final meeting in Riga at the end of the project period.  4 Persons : Sport teachers and methodologists from each School and project coordinator will participate in each meeting.

Tulemused

So our idea within this Nordplus project is to create a joint edition of practical help (handbook) for teachers in comprehensive schools, dealing with children with disabilities, with emphasis on integration in physical education (sports lessons). All participating schools also have an advisory function. The materials developed will be a great help in this work. The materials collected over the project period, tested methods and the best advice will be compiled in a joint edition of practical help (handbook) for teachers in comprehensive schools. We want to publish this handbook as a pdf document on the websites of the schools.
The schools work closely together with universities in the respective countries. We will share the results with the universities so that they can be further developed and serve as guides for new teachers.
A report on the progress and the activities carried out and results achieved will be published on the schools' websites.
in a longer term perspective the objectives are that we are able to guide teachers. And the most important objective in a long-term perspective is that the methods will be implemented in the schools in order to give every pupil the best opportunity to be and feel included in the physical activities together with peers in the best way – also peers with autism spectrum disorders and/or ADHD.
