![]() Lühikokkuvõte | ![]() | ![]() The project is to initiate scientific thinking and is divided into two parts. 1. A scientific conference for gymnasium students. This in all subjects. 2. A scientific meeting connected to a "Phytoremediation, a cleaning method for heavymetal polluted soils". We have done part one for three years with Estonia, Latvia and Sweden with very good results. We aim to continue, widen with two more countries an expand some of the quality thinking around this theme. Looking at part two we have a joint venture project were the students in respectively country is doing similar research in Phytoremediation(a method to clean heavymetal polluted soils with plants). A project which is run in collaboration with Stockholm University. We have been succesful in getting money for equipment but do not have money for a yearly meeting around the project. This will be combined with the scientific conference as a meeting of its own or at a different date depending on the practical possibilities for the host. The aim of the project is to organise three academic conferences with the aim of popularising science NPJR-2022/10145 Page 3 (18) Submitted - 01-Feb-2022 and young people’s role in it. The conferences will be held in the spring terms of 2023, 2024 and 2025 in three countries by the five project partners: Tibble Fristående Gymnasium in Sweden, Tartu Jaan Poska Gymnasium in Estonia, Jurmala State Gymnasium in Latvia, Kaunas Santaros Gymnasium and Gymnasium Grankullsa Samskola. The conferences/meetings are held in an academic and friendly environment and offer upper secondary school students an opportunity to present research papers in the form of short presentations, posters and scientific discussions. The project benefits all parties equally because the national curricula of all participating countries list writing and presenting a research paper as a requirement to finish upper secondary school. Our aim is to run this meeting together with the meeting above alternatively as a separate meeting(this regarding practical possibilities in each hosting country). |
![]() Eesmärgid | ![]() | ![]() The aim is to let the upper secondary school students participate and present work on a scientific conference similar to a general scientific conference. Through presentations they understand more about the science method in all various subjects. The scientific meeting with the phytoremediation project strengthen the students scientific thinking and get them familiar with science. Parallell with this the adjoining teachers also have a collegial meeting discussing teaching and results from the conference. This corresponds well with the Nordplus overall objectives: 1. Strengthen and develop Nordic co-operation on education NPJR-2022/10145 Page 3 (18) Submitted - 01-Feb-2022 2. Support, build on, reap the benefits of and promote innovative products and processes in education through the systematic exchange of experiences and good practice; 3. Contribute to the development of quality and innovation in the educational systems for lifelong learning in the participating Nordplus countries through co-operation in education and training. Were are aiming at upper-sceonadary school students. All participating organisations are general education institutions that also have to supervise students who write and defend a research paper, which is one of the requirements of finishing secondary school in all the three countries. The project addresses the need of enhancing the knowledge of teachers to supervise research papers and scientific projects. The conference helps teachers to discuss the issues that come up with supervising research papers and share experiences, hence developing their understanding and sharing their experience with their colleagues in their home institution. At each conference there will be participants from Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Finland as well as top students and teachers from other institutions of the host country, meaning that the ideas discussed at the teachers' meeting will reach a number of schools in the given host country. |
![]() Tegevused | ![]() | ![]() By gathering the students to a conference they learn from the presentations but also from the discussions between the students around the different activities on the conference. This experience has shown to increase the students scientic thinking and also bring a larger interest in their subjects. The teachers exchange of good ideas etc. bring a significant contribution to the collegues in their respectively schools. The schools benefit from the the qualaty brought home and the developmentstudents and teacher experiences from the conferences/meetings. |
![]() Tulemused | ![]() | ![]() After each conference/meeting the students will have got better at presenting their research, shared ideas with their peers, completed (a part of) their research paper course, learned about the research done in their neighbouring countries and found inspiration and possibly assurance that they are on the right track in pursuing an academic career. The teachers, on the other hand, will have discussed supervising research papers, shared experience, learned about the differences and similarities of the school systems and requirements and possibly found assurance that they are not alone with the various obstacles on the path of student research and it is better to overcome the obstacles together. The long-term objectives -More collaboration in the Nordic countries. We can already see that from the NPJP-2018/10413-project which inspired more countries to join, a joint venture research projejt and general more pedagogic discussions across the boarders. -More scientific projects in respectively school. -Higher quality in teachers knowledge and incorporated knowledge into the collegium. |
